This blog is my online Learning Log for the Foundations Drawing course with the Open College of Arts.
So this is scary; the last time I took an art class The Human League’s Don’t You Want Me was in the charts and ‘online’ didn’t exist. Thirty-odd years later and for various reasons now seems to be the right time to pick up where a disastrous Art O-Level left off.
In galleries I’m always drawn to the human body and my art heroes are Freud and Schiele – rather a shame as I’m living slap bang in the middle of Van Gogh and Cezanne’s landscapes. I’m intrigued to see if this course finds me new heroes and maybe a new appreciation for sunflowers and the Montagne Sainte-Victoire!
I’ve lived in the south of France for 10 years, shuttling between the beautiful city of Aix and the teeny-weeny village of Oppede, in the heart of Provence. It sounds dreamy but there are days I really really miss the green green grass of home.
And yes, the kids came up with the name for this blog.
